Celebrating Ellisville Good Neighbor Week: Shine a Light on Kindness

As Mister Rogers once famously said, "Imagine what our real neighborhoods would be like if each of us offered, as a matter of course, just one kind word to another person." His words ring true in Ellisville, where the sense of community has always been strong, and neighbors look out for one another.

This year, from September 28th to October 4th, 2024, the City of Ellisville is proud to join the State of Missouri in celebrating Missouri Good Neighbor Week. It’s a time to reflect on what it means to be a good neighbor and how simple acts of kindness can make a big impact. With this year's theme, Shine a Light on Kindness, Ellisville is focusing on those moments that make our community brighter, safer, and more connected.

Why Good Neighbor Week Matters

Research shows that strong relationships with our neighbors can lead to safer communities, lower crime rates, and an increased sense of well-being. In Ellisville, we've seen firsthand how a friendly wave, a helping hand, or a kind gesture can bring us closer together and make our city a better place to live.

How You Can Get Involved

During Ellisville Good Neighbor Week, we're encouraging residents and local businesses to take part in spreading kindness, whether big or small. From offering to help a neighbor carry groceries to simply checking in on someone who might be lonely, every act counts.

Here are a few ideas on how you can participate:

  • Lend a Hand: Help a neighbor with yard work or a small household task.

  • Check-in: Reach out to someone who may be living alone or going through a difficult time.

  • Be a Friend: Introduce yourself to a neighbor you haven’t met yet and start building that connection.

  • Share the Spirit: Spread the word by sharing your stories of kindness on social media using #EllisvilleGoodNeighborWeek. Together, we can inspire others to join in!

Shining Stars of Ellisville

As part of this week-long celebration, the City of Ellisville is also looking for nominations for our Shining Stars. These are residents who consistently go above and beyond for their neighbors, embodying the spirit of kindness and community. Do you know someone who makes Ellisville a better place through their selfless actions? Submit their name for recognition!

All year round, we collect these nominations and honor the individuals who make a difference in our community. Winners will be recognized during Good Neighbor Week, so don't miss the chance to highlight someone special.

Spread Kindness, Strengthen Our Community

Ellisville has always been a place where community comes first, and this Good Neighbor Week is a reminder of just how important it is to look out for one another. Let’s come together and show the world what makes Ellisville so special. Whether through a kind word or a generous act, we all have the power to make a difference.

Join us from September 28th to October 4th for Ellisville Good Neighbor Week. Let’s celebrate our neighbors, lift each other up, and shine a light on kindness.
